Course Overview

The IGC syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards, such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) codes of practice. Local laws and cultural factors are also covered where relevant. 

Who is the NEBOSH International Certificate course for?

  • Companies in any industry who are looking to implement a health and safety management and improve performance. 
  • Anyone who has health and safety responsibilities as part of their role including managers, supervisors, HR personnel, operation managers and budding health and safety advisors.  

No previous health and safety knowledge is needed, but learners should have a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0.

What does the NEBOSH International General Certificate cover? 

The course covers is divided into 3 units:

  • Unit IGC1: Management of international health and safety
  • Unit GC2: Control of international workplace hazards
  • Unit GC3: International health and safety practical application

How is the NEBOSH International Certificate assessed?

Learners must pass 2 x written examinations for IGC1 and GC2. Exams are taken in training centres under exam conditions. GC3 is a work-based project which must be completed within 2 weeks of the written exams.

How long do I have to complete the NEBOSH International Certificate qualification?

All 3 units must be completed within five years to achieve the full NEBOSH lnternational Certificate qualification.

How can I study for my NEBOSH International General Certificate?

Astutis offers 3  different options for delegates wishing to study for the NEBOSH IGC:
  • Online learning - learn at your own pace and in your own time, with online software and full tutor support.
  • For groups of employees at your organisation ­- we will come to you. Save on the cost of training multiple delegates.
  • Classroom learning - delegates can attend the 10 day classroom course, completing their training within 2 weeks. Study in the the Middle East - Dubai and Doha,. UK (residential) or South Africa.

Should I go straight for the NEBOSH International Diploma, or start with the International General Certificate?

The NEBOSH IGC course is an ideal place to start as it gives a broad grounding in the field of health and safety. The NEBOSH International Diploma course will build on knowledge gained at this level. Whilst it is not necessary to have a pre-qualification to take the NEBOSH International Diploma, we would highly recommend it.

How is the NEBOSH IGC assessed?

Units IGC1 & GC2 are assessed by two 2-hour written exams of 10  'short-answer', 8-mark compulsory questions and 1 'long-answer', 20  mark compulsory question. GC3 is a 2-hour practical examination carried out in your own workplace. Papers are marked by external examiners who are appointed by NEBOSH.
