NEBOSH International General Certificate in South America

The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety is an internationally recognised qualification that will provide you with a broad understanding of key health and safety issues. The IGC is NEBOSH’s most popular qualification worldwide and is growing in popularity amongst employers in South America.

Course overview:

The IGC syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards, such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) codes of practice. Local laws and cultural factors are also covered where relevant.  The course covers is divided into 3 units :

  1. IGC1 - Management of international health and safety
  2. GC2 - Control of international workplace hazards
  3. GC3 - International health and safety practical application

. This practical element will be assessed by Astutis and externally moderated by NEBOSH.

Who is the NEBOSH International Certificate course for?

The NEBOSH IGC is for people already working in health & safety, or who want to start a career in safety management and need a globally recognised qualification. It is perfect for managers in all functions who have health & safety responsibilities. No previous health and safety knowledge is needed but a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0.

How is the NEBOSH International Certificate assessed?

IGC1 and GC2 are 2 separate 2 hour exams consisting of 10 short answer questions and 1 long answer; GC3 is a 2 hour practical assessment carried out in the workplace no later than two weeks after sitting the final NEBOSH exam.

What will I gain by achieving the NEBOSH IGC qualification?

Once you have who successfully complete the NEBOSH IGC you will be certified and can apply for:

  • Technical membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH)
  • Associate Membership of the International Institute of Risk Management, allowing you to use AIIRSM after your name

Many professionals benefit from achieving the IGC qualification in their job and career; many go on to a higher level and take the NEBOSH International Diploma and become competent safety professionals.

How long do I have to complete the NEBOSH International Certificate qualification?

All 3 units must be completed within five years to achieve the full NEBOSH lnternational Certificate qualification.

How can I study for my NEBOSH International General Certificate?

Astutis offers 3 different options for delegates wishing to study for the NEBOSH IGC:
  • Classroom learning - delegates can attend the 10  day classroom course, completing their training within 2  weeks. Study in the UK (residential), Canada, South Africa, Australia or the Middle East.

Should I go straight for the NEBOSH International Diploma, or start with the International General Certificate?

The NEBOSH IGC course is an ideal place to start as it gives a broad grounding in the field of health and safety. The NEBOSH International Diploma course will build on knowledge gained at this level. Whilst it is not necessary to have a pre-qualification to take the NEBOSH International Diploma, we would highly recommend it.

How is the NEBOSH IGC assessed?

Units IGC1 & GC2 are assessed by two 2-hour written exams of 10  'short-answer', 8-mark compulsory questions and 1 'long-answer', 20  mark compulsory question. GC3 is a 2-hour practical examination carried out in your own workplace. Papers are marked by external examiners who are appointed by NEBOSH.
