How Long Does it Take to Complete an IEMA Environmental Management Course?

The duration of an IEMA course varies depending on the level of qualification and learning method. 

You can complete an introductory awareness-level course within just 7 hours. The IEMA Foundation Certificate requires around 40 hours/5 days of learning, while the advanced IEMA Certificate requires 3-weeks of tutor-led training. 

IEMA Course Entry Requirements

Entry-level qualifications don't require any previous knowledge or experience. They'll give you a solid introduction to the subject and teach you everything you need to know to kick-start a career in environmental management.

The higher-level IEMA Certificate is for those already working in an environmental role. It requires understanding fundamental sustainability issues and trends gained through work experience or the IEMA Foundation Certificate.

IEMA Environmental Management Course Exams

All IEMA qualifications have an end of course assessment to test your understanding. The good news is that almost all exams are taken online or through written assignment - that means no stressful exam conditions!

The IEMA Foundation Certificate has a 1-hour, open-book online exam at the end of the course. The IEMA Certificate has three separate assignments which you'll submit weekly. 

Make no mistake - the exams are meant to challenge your thinking and put your new skills to the test. You'll still need to put in adequate revision to feel confident when sitting your exam. 

Do IEMA Environmental Management Qualifications Expire?

The simple answer is, no! Once you've achieved an IEMA qualification, it's yours to keep forever. However, the environmental sustainability industry and evolving at a rapid pace.
