NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma entry requirements
You should already have a fundamental understanding of health and safety issues, such as risk management, hazard control, accident investigation, and international regulation.
We always recommend taking a foundation-level qualification like the NEBOSH General Certificate or having at least 5 years’ health and safety work experience before taking the course.
What's covered in the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma?
The NEBOSH International Diploma teaches health and safety management at senior-level. It's based on best practice and international regulation, such as the International Labour Organisations (ILO) codes of practice.
The course has three units:

How is the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma assessed?
The NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma takes a practical approach to learning and is assessed entirely through practical work and scenario based questions.
DI1 is assessed with a practical assignment split into 4 sections:
Scenario based questions
Work based activities
Reflective statements
A short research project
Units DI2 and DI3 are assessed with case studies and scenario based questions.
You will have 2-4 weeks to complete your assessments and submit your work to the NEBOSH online portal. You should spend around 40 hours on your DI1 assignment and 20 hours each on your DI2 and DI3 assignments.

The main difference between the two courses is the regulation and legislation. The NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma is based on UK legislation, so it's great for anyone working inside the UK.
The NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma takes a risk management approach based on best practice and ILO codes of practice. Local laws and cultural factors are also included. It's perfect for anyone working outside the UK, or in a multinational organisation.
English is my second language. Will I be able to cope with the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma course?
Candidates should be proficient in English before considering the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma course. NEBOSH recommends that candidates undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests in order to be accepted onto an International Diploma programme. What is my route to Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) status through the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma?
The NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (GradIOSH) of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and is regulated by Ofqual. It is the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
The next step is completing a Skills Development Portfolio. Once you have passed all the Units you will also need to maintain your continuing professional development (CPD). You will be asked to attend a Peer Review Interview.
Are there any entry requirements to taking the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma?
Although it is not required, it is strongly recommended that you take the International Certificate before the International Diploma to improve your chances of passing, as it is expected all of this knowledge is already in place.
How many exams must I take for the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma?
There are 3 assessments required for the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma, one each for Units DI1, DI2, and DI3. You will have 4 weeks to complete and submit your DI1, and 2 weeks each for DI2 and DI3. These can all be taken online from home.
Do I have to start with Unit ID1 of the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma?
No. As the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma course is modular, delegates are able to study individual units as they please. However, Astutis would recommend starting with Unit DI1 as delegates will find they are able to build on knowledge gained with each Unit.
How long does it take to complete the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma qualification?
The length of time taken to complete the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma course varies according to mode of study. the distance learning or online learning courses have an approximate 409 hours of study, while the virtual course is run over 6 weeks, with each unit taking 2 weeks of tuition. Candidates have a period of 5 years from enrolment to completing their NEBOSH International Diploma exams.
How does the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma compare to a university degree?
The NEBOSH International Diploma qualification has been accredited as a level 6 qualification by Ofqual - this is equivalent to a university honours degree and is a good base from which to progress to a Masters Degree in Health and Safety.

The recommended study time for the NEBOSH Level 6 International Diploma course is 409 hours.
